He means it as an explanation rather than an apology. Automation interests him because he does not want to do the work. Hand him something that has to happen every week and he will build a machine that does it forever, on the grounds that the machine can be working when he is not.
A careers advisor once told him his ideal job would be testing beds. He has since built an agency that mostly runs when he is asleep, and now thinks the advice was sound.
People who tell him he will regret it in the morning have misjudged the morning. He sleeps until after midday purely to prove them wrong. A brief listing everything wanting his attention is waiting for him at four o’clock. He reads it at lunch.
That habit accounts for most of what he has built. His own WordPress plugins. An uptime and certificate monitoring platform that runs for other people as much as for him. The parts of client work that repeat, handed over one at a time to something that does not need reminding.
Denver Web Success now runs on a set of named AI departments that sweep the mail, chase certificates before they lapse, watch rankings and write the first draft of almost everything. He still signs it all himself, a point he makes at every opportunity, in case anybody asks what he does all day.
